Praise God for some Good News!

I know many of you were looking for an update from me last weekend, but I
thought I might have a another one at the first of this week, so I decided to
delay it until today. First of all, the radiation and chemotherapy
treatments have been going as well as can be expected at this point. Today
(Tuesday) marks day number 9 of treatment. So we have nine finished and
sixteen to go. I haven't felt nausea symptoms yet, but just a little queasy
feeling in my stomach from time to time. The only other symptom I have
noticed is general fatigue. Usually, I feel like I need to take a nap about
midday.
The other new development is actually quite substantial. Last week I had my
first consultation with the Endocrinologist. She asked numerous questions
about my personal medical history and family history. After listening to my
story, she shook her head and said, "Bruce, I don't think you have Type !!
Diabetes. In fact, I am almost positive you have Type I Diabetes. That is
why your medications have not been working to bring down your blood glucose
levels. She then ordered a blood test that would confirm or not confirm her
suspicions. Well, the blood tests have come in, and she was right; it
appears that I was misdiagnosed as a Type II Diabetic at the beginning.
This explains why I have never been able to regulate my blood glucose
numbers. It also explains why I have experienced such dramatic weight
loss. It certainly seems to make sense. In the past week, since I was
placed on an insulin only treatment, I have already gained a couple of
pounds.
Thus begins an educational process on how to manage Type I Diabetes with
insulin. They have set me up with a few classes to get me up to speed and
to learn how to maintain a consistent level. Oh well, it's always an
adventure. We count on your prayers to keep us going through all the ups
and downs in this process. We love and appreciate each one of you.
